I had the priviledge of attending the First Pinoy Music Summit "Basta Pinoy, Push Mo Yan" as OPM - Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit delegate on 19th March 2014, Macapagal Hall, Landbank Building, Malate, Manila.

From the primer: "The Pinoy Music Summit aims to chart the state of the Philippine music industry and develop a program towards strengthening and promoting original Filipino music, as an expression of culture and identity as well as economic driver. By working together, various stakeholders of the music industry will find creative solutions to the challenges it confronts, ensure its sustainability and contribute meaningfully in the development of the Filipino identity."

Speeches / Talks from H.E. President Benigno Aquino, Mr. Noel Cabangon (Conference Director/FILSCAP President), Prof. Ryan Cayabyab (PHILPOP Foundation Executive Director), Senator Paolo Benigno "Bam" Aquino, Senator Teofisto "TG" Guingona III, Director General Ricardo Blancaflor (Intellectual Property Office), Mr. Herminio "Ogie" Alcasid Jr. (OPM President), Ms. Patrcia Hizon (PHILPOP Associate Executive Director), Ms. Twinky Lagdameo (ELEMENTS Lead Proponent/7101 Music Nation COO), Ms. Sarah Jane Domingo-Lipura (Ateneo de Manila University Professor), made the event meaningful and informative.

There was a Focused Group DIscussion on "how to create a vibrant and sustainable music ministry anchored on original Filipino music," where I was assigned to the "green" group.

Aside from the OPM people, I was especially happy to see Joy NIlo (representing the Philippine Choir DIrectors Association), Jed Balsamo (representing the National Commission for Culture and the Arts), Rey Malipot (representing the Jesuit Communications), and a lot more.

One day isn't enough to cover all the issues with the Music Industry but its a good start. Im looking forward to the next Pinoy Music Summit.
